A much cheaper and more effective way to deal with pirates. The international naval patrol isn't always out there 24/7.

About 10 years ago Popular Mechanics had an article about a new build Titanic and that it could not be an exact replica. Welding has replaced rivets and that weight reduction would have to be considered. Also waste and garbage systems would have to be installed as per marine law that Titanic didn't ...

The CVV design proposed in the late 70's was designed to handle a 12 ship squadron of F-14's and that was a 60,000 ton design so that would probably be the minimum design. Some folks here seem to be turned off by the Tomcats age but the other designs aren't spring chickens either. The Su-33 and F-18...

Well folks the it stated fleet defence fighter in the title and the F-14 was designed from the ground up to do that. Politics kept it from being developed into a full multi-role design. The Navy went with the Super Hornet upgrade on the heels of the A-12 cluster fook and needed to go with a cheaper ...

Hmmm no love for the F-14. If it had been allowed to evolve into a new production Tomcat 21 with full multi-role crews would still be wearing the "Anytime Baby" patch. That the Iranians have been able to keep a few flying US naval aviation should feel like its been wacked in the gonads by a wrecking...

No confusion I know that the river trip and fleet review are two different things. During Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee 165 Royal Navy warships turned out for review. My train of thought was is the Queen wondering how in the span of 60 years that the Royal Navy has fallen so far?

I have to confess that I would like to know what was going through the Queen's mind during the trip on the Thames. In 1953 the Royal Navy formed up in Spithead for review by the newly crowned Elizabeth. There were 197 vessels present not counting foreign warships. Now the RN is so small they decided...

Queen Victoria reigned 64 years 1837-1901. In my alternate universe Queen Elizabeth would review the Grand Fleet with Admiral Sir John Fisher. As Emperor of North America I would send a squadron of South Dakota superdreadnoughts to salute the long regin of Elizabeth. God Save the Queen!

Ah the "Gin Palace" very nice job drawing her. Always liked the design but due to all those guns her armor was less than standard battleships.
