The real issue is not necessarily level of detail, but amount of shades used. When someone has used 10 different shades to show curvature, that's when I give up. I'm also not a huge kitbasher and have basically no patience for modifying others' work, so I'm kind of biased, but I do remember running ...

Yes... there is no rule that says you can't redraw a certain ship dozens of times ;)

It will be great to see all the evolutions ;)

For now, maybe a nice step would be to update the red color on the hull and replace the old propeller with a newer one.

Very, very nice.

How did you get started doing this type of "anti-aliased" illustration (vs. the pixel art we do)? I've always wanted to branch out but didn't know where to start. I use Photoshop as well - any basic tips?

Welcome :) Great to see a new person drawing 1) a real life ship, 2) a USN ship, and 3) a screw steamer! I don't really have much to add other than to check the FAQ on the site itself (it lists some open source options for SB drawing). Some of the other guys who are more knowledgeable about sailing ...
