Rodondo - The books you want to look at are; British Cruisers of the Victorian Era - Norman Friedman Seaforth Publishing 2012 and British Cruisers Two World Wars and After - Norman Friedman Seaforth Publishing The books have lots of lovely pictures, the Australian ones are mainly from the A C Green ...

The OPV based training ship IS the cheap option. Think about it; with one LSD now in service, two LHDs about to come into service and 12 helicopter capable frigates in service there is now a huge requirement for training sea-based helicopter aircrew, handlers and maintainers. Oh, don't forget the fl...

You guys are talking as though the arming of the Aviation Training Ship as an OPV is a foregone conclusion. I'll bet you that this vessel does not have a gun mounting and the biggest guns it will carry (if at all) will be 50 Cal HMGs. I even wonder if it will commission as one of Her Majesty's Austr...

Love the Beaufighters! Especially the RAAF ones.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the squadron code for the 456Sqn IIf. I believe they used the RX as the squadron code. SA was worn by their Defiants before they converted but I've never heard of Beaus wearing th SA code.

darthpanda - You have done a beautiful job on the RAAF F-111C drawings. You have made an error in the configuration of your aircraft. The F-111C is a version of the F-111A with the early intake configuration which was easily identified by a splitter plate to seperate the boundary layer from the inta...

Rowdy36 - If you check out the Australian War Memorial's Photographic Collection you'll find several pictures of M11/39s and M13/40s. http://www.awm.gov.au/search/all/ To me the vehicles with kangaroos painted on them definitely look green rather than sand (see refs 005042, 005044, 005046, 005047). ...

Sorry Nighthunter the 6th Divisional Cavalry Regiment didn't use L6/40s in North Africa. They did use M11/39s and M13/40s painted, as you noted, with big white kangaroos conspicuously around the vehicles. Their normal equipment was Vickers Light Mk.VIB tanks and Universal Carriers. (Has anyone done ...

I don't know mate. I seem to have a knack for finding stuff on the www. I had seen a diagram of Acheron in the past http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/images/screen/ART19864.jpg and when I was preparing my previous post I found the beautiful plan set above which I had never seen before. It was a good ...

Beautiful job on the little TB. But I beg to differ on your comments. The four Australian boats; TB191 (Tasmania and later South Australia), Nepean and Lonsdale (Victoria) and Mosquito (Queensland) are sisters and are distinguishable from their Kiwi cousins by having one funnel where the four Kiwi b...

Wonderful work Rowdy. A very nice design reminiscent of the De Havilland Hornet. A small point of order - the standard for Commonwealth air forces in WW2 appears to place the squadron letter codes in front of the roundel. Without looking back through the thread it appears Recherche is a British Comm...
