there are 2 open places in front of the ship and the aft which are entirely open and serve no function IMO they could be used a CIWS platforms

well, the fact that the USN operated for example close to the iraqi coast for some time, and tomahawks can not be reloaded at sea, makes me think that they can really be usefull..... especially in low risk situations, where an 'slow mover' is not likely to be targeted. but that is quite another sto...
