There currently isn't a way to use a rail gun for orbital launch using a projectile without its own follow on propulsion. The starting speed you would need exiting the barrel to ensure it has enough energy throughout its flight to make it out of the atmosphere means you have to have maximum velocity...

I am curious as to the number of "bridges" this design has? What was the intended purpose of all of these large windowed spaces!

She looks great, but would she really still have torpedoes by her late build date and especially 1938?

Thank you Hood, I looked at that turret placement and was not happy with it, I will alter it through dropbox which will update the drawing for me. Just an aside for people. Full Load displacement is the ship with absolutely everything aboard and maxed out, fuel, water, ammunition, provisions (and e...

So I was walking the decks of USS Wisconson the other day as well as a few decks made out of teak and you know wood decking really is more grey than tan in color after a couple years.

If I were you I would disburse the turbines rather than the drive motors. Having different length shafting adds complexity to your design and will require the inclusion of maintenance intensive thrust bearings on the longer shaft. Not to mention that at the beam of the ship at the shafts a hit to on...

I hadn't heard about aircraft control being a driving force in SMART-L for the Brits, that is interesting. Even more so because they build these ships when they had no aircraft to control and more so again because they won't for probably another five years realistically (factoring airwing procuremen...

Even the Americans have the same problem, on a Burk it's nor an problem because the hull of an Burke is so big, but when you get smaller as an frigate, that have much bigger motion in the sea, and also tend to be driven much harder in bad weather than a destroyer. so where ever you are in the world...

No one but the Norwegians spend much time in Norway so unless he is designing this thing specifically for Norway there is no reason to criticize the design for that niche environment. But even in Norway these life rafts are high enough and aft enough. You can't be perfectly invulnerable to every haz...

Yatsumi, there is no realistic danger of a liferaft that far aft and that high being hit by a wave period let alone ripped off by one. This board is obssessed with wave action damage for some reason. The stealth issue, however, is valid. If you have a dedicated search radar that has a low power sett...
