"Improvements in the engines and the boilers reduced the numbers of smoke stacks from three down to two."

Would that be a move to turbines? The timing would be about right with a completion date of 1910. That would also give an improvement of speed as well. Say from 20 to 22 knots.

I quite agree about the 7"-6"-5" arguments. The biggest problem with those guns is crew fatigue from the size of the shells. And then the possible enemies you would expect to be firing at. The 7" gun fired slowly because of the size of the shell. Slow firing guns against small enemy vessels does not...

I like the idea Krle94 and the resulting drawing looks like it should for that era, well done! The only query I had was the use of the 6" gun for the secondary armament. That would have been a bit of a strange size at that stage in the US Navy battleships. The previous two classes went 7" down to 3"...

Hey Karle94, would it be possible that when you are posting a new update that you could post it to the first page as you do, AND, post it in the update post (as the Florida class above) so that we don't have to scroll through all of the drawings to find the updated ones? The work you are doing is ve...

Excellent work Tempest.

Though I must confess I had to put the image up on a 55" TV so I could see all of the drawing in one go.

Nice work Tempest. Not the easiest of German ships to draw.

After 45 years I finally got around to buying an air brush kit a couple of years ago, before that everything was by hand. I am still learning to use the airbrush and occasionally fluke a decent paint job. From what you have shown so far, your on the fly learning is going very well.

I am very much looking forward to your completed drawing appearing in Shipbucket. I think a lot of the artists here may take this scale and use it for their favourite ships. Ian with the Alaska's, Maomatic with the Bismarck's (hint hint), even I may try it out on the KGV's. Drawings of the calibre o...
