Much better. Its good not to have easily "explodey" bits out in the open, especially near the midships where most shells tend to land. This design always struck me as a bit strange, with the long low hull. To me that would make her quite a wet design in a seaway but I guess weight considerations cam...

Yup, get rid of them. I think the Germans were the only ones who kept torpedoes with Tirpitz. We removed ours during refits.

Those midship deck torpedo mounts are a disaster waiting to happen. I can't see the US Navy putting them there.

If she's laid down in 1917, I'd go with the more austere New Mexico superstructure. Most depictions I've seen are like that. It would be interesting though to see the more robust "Big Five" style superstructure.

It was. It was basically an 18" version of South Dakota. The actual sketch was drawn mainly to show how switching to turreted secondaries would impact the design so there's no details on the design.

Deflection markings for determining the direction the turret is trained from other ships in the fleet to allow concentration of fire on a target.

No, they're fixed to the main turret.
