It's used for vortex shedding. It helps reduce the amount of propeller blade cavitation/acoustic signature when operating at or near the surface. More important for diesel boats that have to remain on top for hours at a time to recharge batteries.

You should consider changing from Gigantic and archaic naval guns to the gigantic modern kinetic energy hyper velocity electromagnetic sort. The weight saved in powders and mechanisms can be used for capacitor banks.

Otherwise its like putting a laser scope on a musket.

As far as the SLQ-32 is concerned, I didnt think it would be an issue. Since elecromagnetic radiation travels so fast, the transmission would pass the entire length of the ship aft of the SPY-1F transmitter in less than 1 millisecond. Also I thought it might be possible to program a notch filter tha...
