The original Emden design was designed with open-back shielded twin-mounts, but that was vetoed by the Allied disarmament comitee. Also, she was designed imediately after the war, when Germany needed modern cruisers. Here, with the Cöln-class completed, Germany has more time and freedom to came up w...

Design I/35 This one was another monitor-type, this time in a flush-deck design. As the name implies, the main artillery calibre was increased to 350mm, the firepower concentrated in a single triple turret mounted at the bow. Additional firepower was provided by two 150mm twin turrets aft and two 8...

The hull shape is a cross between the Emden and Königsberg , but maybe I need to work on the details. though I think the turrets look somewhat too modern. The turrets are once again based on the Königsberg- class. I figured that without economic crisis, Versailles oversight and occupation, a turret ...

Edit: fixed a color mistake in the guns of design V/30. Thanks for all the kind words, much appreciated. Where was the diesel exhaust on the 1925 ships? I thought it might have been the foremast but that seems too far forward. They don't seem to have one. My guess is that either they were so early i...

Once again trying my hands at a fictional design for a victorious Germany after WW1. A light cruiser around 6000-7000t displacement, armed with 4x2x150mm, 4x1x88mm Flak, 4x2x20mm FlaMG and 4x2x600mm torpedooes. It's supposed to be a trader-of-all-master-of-none cruiser for all kinds of mission, from...

3. The AU US Navy has been metric ever since 1888 when they adopt Krupp artillery instead of the appallingly awful Whitworth guns the Endicott mission selected. Mister McKinley's navy if you had not noticed, uses German technology right down to the Schwartzkopf torpedoes. Just as a side node, to my...

Design V/30 This design moved from twin to triple turrets for the main artillery, arranged in one turret fore and aft. Secondaries were increased by one additional twin turret, while flak moved to the tried-and-trusted, albeit old 88mm single emplacement. Performance-wise, this design was identical...

I have updated the previous designs with a new paint scheme and resored the missing links. Design IV/30 Another design with 305mm main artillery, this one had the layout that would later be found on the British Nelson -class battleships. Presumable, the German design did this for the same reason, to...

Fantastic new series!

another extra trivia:
For sinking the three armoured cruisers, U-9 was awarded an iron cross in the same fashion like the cruiser SMS Emden. The iron cross then had been carried by the two later U-9s that followed in the 20th century.
