Armoured frigate Numancia
The armored frigate Numancia was the first ironclad of the Spanish Navy. She was the flagship of Admiral Méndez Núñez in the Pacific War, and participated in the Portman battle during the Cantonal War. In 1886 she was converted into an ironclad coastguard, and decommissioned in 1910.
Numantia was an Iberian city that resisted the armies of Rome for ten years. In Spanish, "resistencia numantina" means to resist until death.
