Hi,

here's my rendition of the torpedo trials/training ship 'Walter Holzapfel' as she appeared in 1940.

[ img ]

The ship was commissioned in 1939 and initially stationed at the torpedo research facility in Eckernförde.
It seems that she was later stationed in Gotenhafen/Gdynia some time around 1943 / 44.

After the war the ship was handed over to the British and used as a diver tender(?) under the name 'Deepwater'.
She was scrapped in the sixties.

References were scarce on this one and it took me ages to finish. Because of that, the drawing might contain some errors.
So take it with the usual grain of salt. ;)

cheers!

Hi all

@Colombamike: The text below the drawing in the Gröner scan says it:

'TR-Satz wechselweise in den eingezeichneten Positionen'

translating to

'TT-set alternating between the positions in the drawing'

So there indeed was only one TT-set, sometimes mounted forward, sometimes aft. All is cool.

BTW Maomatic: looking good!

Greetings
GD

Hi Mike,

Gröner mentions in the text, that the position of the tubes could be changed.
The pictures that I have only show the tubes in the aft position, though I have to say, that the forward position is somewhat obscured in them.
Maybe sometimes two sets were carried?

In the drawing, I decided to show the forward mounting position and install the aft set.

I might do a camoed version sometime.

Edit: Garlic was faster, thanks! :)

cheers

Only other thing I can see is that the flag on the stern should be the Kriegsmarine flag, not the national flag. Other than that, awesome job!
