Since I started making Maya-class Destroyers last March IIRC, I think I will post some WIP Projects at least for Japanese escort vessels. Right now, I currently making the Asahi-class Guided Missile Destroyers which is, as far as I know, the Akizuki sub-class. Feel free to criticize if it is deemed necessary.

1. The Grey color of the ship is definitely to dark.

2. FCS-3A AAW and OPY-1 AAW was more white in 2017 and early version, it was first at a later time they started to appear in a similar color as the hull (see picture above)

3. On JS Shiranui you have some weird things going on with the hull color.

4. The hull shape; Sonar shape; ant the keg is not 100% correct either; etc. isn't correct, sadly, you can see that without looking at drawings and photos of the ship:

(note! a media drawing, not blueprint):

5. the underwater hull color is wrong:

6. The stabilization fins are placed wrong and to big, they would also have no effect in that area. Normally stabilization fins are placed either in front of aft engine room or aft of forward engine room, in this case the placement is in front of aft funnel:

7. The hull shading is way wrong.

8. JS Asahi VLS, lack color!

And it's many many more. When drawing ships where there is little good sources or drawings, it's important to use as many sources as possible, compare several pictures of the same things, yes it take time, but what you get is a really good drawing, then something that feels like it have been put together in a hurry. For example the rig the davids are mounted on, in front of the hangar, is not 100% correct, there should be some support beams and other things.

But you shall have for managing to remember to draw in all the red boxes, but some of them is life rafts!

oh make sure the black line along the water line, have correct width, it's look a bit wide for me.

For reference for my drawing:

1st image:

As you can see, the VLS color has been on the matte beige side. I want to emphasize that part since it has on the pic. Added to it as the phased array radars' color is similar to the hull color as such at this time so I hope that the color of the phased arrays is not a problem anymore.

About the reference for JS Shiranui:

I want to emphasize of the hull color scheme as there has a different scheme than a normal one. I don't know when it is taken shot because it didn't told so, but I use this for reference.

I know that color is the problem at most for all my work, aside from the other things you've seen. But I will do my best to get it just like how Asahi Class look like.

the different hull colors on JS Shiranui, might just come down that they have been painting over some issue spots, and didn't have the correct color available at hand, or they are in the middle of changing colors. We always colors the ship at it's best in shipbucket, and usually not coloring some quick fix that have been done at some point.

It's been 5 months since I posted here the Asahi-class. I will post here the update...

I revise the design of the hull based on the model that I based on. Color and shading still on issues since I'm really suck on such areas. I also repolish the sonar part since that is the first thing you saw that needs to improve. I don't know if I get it correctly. Lastly, the stabilizers are on it's correct position, I think?
