About Vespucci and Palinuro.
Vespucci and his brother Colombo were built as "training ships" with all the related limitation.
Palinuro was an atlantic fishing boat with much better nautical qualities.

By the way the Captain and the crew make the main difference. On Vespucci it is necessary to manage a very complex set of sails but, if the Captain knows his job he can do what he wants...as made the Admiral Straulino.
In this picture he is passing with Vespucci full-rigged through the 39 m wide Taranto's channel (Vespucci has a width of 15.5 meters!).
Moreover he docked several times Vespucci without engine and without support tugs...

In the Baltic sea Gorch Foch crossed in 1965 Vespucci and challenged him: the German training ship should be, theoretical, should be much faster than the heavy Vespucci. Theoretically.
Admiral Straulino (named the Wind Wizard) accepted the challenge and, after several hours Gorch Foch retired. His Captain sent the following message:
"You are the finest world ship with a Windwizard as Captain"

No comment, means OK! (I guess)
So during vacation (too short) I completed Palinuro. Here is the result.
