First off, its a fantastic drawing! I hope I get up to that level one day, but I need to work on the base rules first. I really like the way ships are shaded by the more advanced members of the community here... I have a quick question that I hope can be answered here. If not, then I'll try to find out elsewhere. Why does the sonar unit stick out from the bottom of the hull? Cheers. |

The Polimon sonar was quite powerfull but unfortunately the Soviet technology wasen't able to save space as much as the western counterparts. Many times somawhat paraler soviet and western systema in mere performance were quite different in size. Polimon was so huge that even the relatively large pr. 1155 design couldn't accomodate it without having the extra sharp and lenghty bow in order to to be able to lower the anchors without hitting the sonardome. |

So it was solely because the sonar unit itself was too big to fit in the hull? Do you know if it influenced the performance of the ship at all? Thanks a lot! |

Well the basic hull design of pr. 1155 is based on the earlier pr. 1135 (Krivak) design and the whole purpose of the pr.1155 was to be follow on to it. As with many other soviet shipdesigns the follow on design ended up being next generation warships in one cathegory up in size than the shipclass it was supposed to follow. The hulldesign of Pr.1135 was well liked in VMF and often regarded as one of the most succesfull of Soviet shipdesigns and AFAIK the hull of pr.1155 was quite good regardless of the Polimon. I recall some mentioning about this in the Pavlov's book about pr. 1155, I need to recheack it to be sure tough. |
