I've taken the plunge away from drawing AU ships and into my first attempt at a real ship in SB scale: Argentina's Italian-built cruisers of the 1930s. It's a bit hard finding good references from their early service since they were refitted twice and most pictures were taken post-refit, especially the bow catapult area.

These sleek ships served the Argentine Navy well for a long time, and Veinticinco De Mayo participated in one of the more curious episodes in Argentina's history. In 1936, with the outbreak of the civil war in Spain Argentina dispatched the cruiser, escorted by a destroyer, to Spanish waters where it took up station in the port of Alicante. From August '36 until May 1937, they evacuated almost 2,000 refugees and asylum seekers to Argentina. When some local authorities threatened to stop the process of repatriating nationals, the cruiser's captain warned them that if they kept interfering with their duties, the next ship to arrive would be a battleship and not a lowly cruiser
