Posting what I have done so far so if anyone sees any glaring errors I can get them ironed out before I start detailing.

I'm using the 1944 plans from HNSA but I wanted to do the 1930's version first.

I advise you rather to do the 1940, 1942, 1944 version.
I'm not sure you find good pictures/reference of Ranger by 1933-1934 :?

Yes, I think you're right.

Thanks again for your help.

If you can access that book than Norman Friedman's book about U.S carrier has a good line drawing of the Ranger. I know some questions had arisen about the accuracy of A.D Baker's drawings, but using the drawing along side the blueprints might be useful.
Anyway I am waiting for the completed work.

I hate it when this happens...

Getting close to the finish line with Ranger but I'm having doubts about the overall length. The building plans I have say 769ft in 1944. I resized the drawing accordingly and removed the aft gun buckets, to make an earlier drawing. The pixel length is now 1521. I'm thinking that the oa length is probably as built and wasn't updated to take account of the added gun buckets.

I like your vessel and your drawing skills, but you have to do something with your seal (naval badge in american!). It's not ok :(
