After the end of WW2 three Royal Navy S-class (III group) submarines were sold to Portugal, where they served till the late 1960's:

Very nice indeed, great to see this thread still going.

I wonder what the prices involved in these sales were. i.e. intilial cost to RN and then the sell on price and the condition they were in after the war.

Charybdis, I don't have this information but I do know there was an issue of "Revista da Armada" covering the history of Portuguese submarine fleet: http://www.marinha.pt/pt-pt/media-cente ... rmada.aspx (check out the April 2013 issue, all in Portuguese of course).
