added these 2 to the first post. it's one little monster, 3 separate FCS systems (not counting backup parts) for 6 turrets..... (8 directors in total because they split roles and have backup parts)

comments are welcome, as always.

I will now be starting on the 1954 artist impressions of the ship, after that we get to the ships as build.

I'd love to comment, but you've done the research. These are wonderful renditions of these ships.

I know they're subchasers, but I just keep looking for the torpedo tubes, is all :D

Short ASW TTs do seem like sort of low-hanging fruit, especially on a hull that already carries two modern and expensive medium-caliber mounts.

well, torpedo tubes were tested on board the friesland class, at the same time as the British experimented with theirs (Bidder, IIRC) but just like the British ships, they were removed again. keep in mind that the Mk 32 SVTT was still about ten years away when these ships were commissioned. the first ship to have short ASW TTs in the dutch navy was the tromp class, in 1975.

Holy hell, really? The USN mounted predecessors to the Mk 32 SVTT as early as 1944 on a limited basis, and the direct predecessor to the Mk 46 went into service in 1950.

Actually, I meant that they have the lines of a classic WWII destroyer, and those all have torpedo tubes for surface action :D

just checked, and the RN has not fielded any short TT's in any ship, apart from the Mk 32 SVTT, apart from some testing. the Dutch at the time followed British design practise, so it is not weird we did not fit these until we started looking at US equipment (Tartar). the british did also fit Mk 32 SVTT around the same time, in 1974 on the type 21 frigate, to be exact.

Excellent work Ace.
It's interesting to see how these evolved over time, they all look very similar at first glance but the differences show how much design work must have gone during those years.
