Ramming can be dangerous. The Royal Navy and Iceland mixed it up in the "Cod War" a number of years ago over fishing rights where small Icelandic gunboats with 19th century 57mms got into ramming fights with RN frigates. The RN even had to fit wooden sheathing to the bows of the frigates to avoid damage.

19th c. 57 mm guns? Where the hell did you get that info? It's downright wrong. The Icelandic coastguard was fairly modern in 1973, and used up-to-date armament. The Tyr and Aegir were by no means small adversaries to the Leanders that the British government dispatched. Odinn was slightly smaller, but still a tough built vessel. As an interesting note, both the sisters, Tyr and Aegir are still in service, albeit rebuilt.

Wikipedia says they operated the 57mm hotchkiss till 1990

Trojan, you're right about that. I stand corrected on that part. The ships themselves, however, were modern and, more importantly, very seaworthy. I should of course have done my homework though! My sincerest apologies to seeker36340.
