Hi,

long time no see... :)

Here's my take of the O-class battlecruiser design:

[ img ]

The three planned ships ("O", "P", "Q") were intended to be fast convoy raiders capable of fighting against enemy CLs and CAs and able to outrun Battleships.
Plans for a mixed turbine-diesel propulsion and heavy calibre guns made the design grow in size. If built, the ships would have been some 15 metres longer than Bismarck, while only beeing armored against 20cm guns.

In my opinion a terrible and not very good looking design. Their supposed nickname "ohne Panzer Quatsch" (no armor nonsense) was very fitting, indeed...

cheers!

From what I recall, the P design was even more "nonsensical" than the O design.

Hi all!

First: Unsurprisingly, the drawing is sublime. Kudos.

Concur that these would not have made much sense.

Still, they are the most promising design of the Z-plan IMHO. They certainly would have been terribly bad surface combatants, but they would have made superb carrier conversions.

Greetings
GD

I always thought that the H-39 were the most sensible of the Z-plan, apart from the M-class light cruisers.

Beautiful ships (albeit not a good design), and an excellent job drawing them, as always! Great to see more from you, my friend!

Awesome drawing Maomatic, he would definitely would have been next to useless as al the Allies would have to do would be to attach a battleship to their convoys to mitigate the threat it would have posed.
