Hello everyone!

A little by-product from my ongoing German AU... the final design of the heavy cruiser Seydlitz, as she was supposed to look in 1942 just before her conversion to CVL was ordered.

I have scaled the drawing to a LOA of 210m. According to most sources, her LOA is 210m, meaning slightly shorter than the Prinz Eugen with her clipper bow; as sources vary (Wikipedia gives four different figures, depending on language), I a sort of unsure whether this is the length of the final design or that of the original light cruiser with a less raked bow, as depicted by Golly's Lützow in the archive. In that case the version with the final bow would be over 214m long. The entry in Groener's can be interpreted both ways, and Conway's is flat wrong (they seem to have confused LOA and LCWL). Anyone able to shed some light on this issue?

really nice drawing. As for the length issue, I can totally relate, its been lot of pain to research simply which source should be most reliable.

Excellent drawing GD.

The book I have always used for my German WW2 stuff is HT Lenton - German Warships of the Second World War, for Prinz Eugen, Lutzow and Seydlitz, he lumps them all together and only gives the stats for the Prinz Eugen rather than individual ships and all measurements are Imperial, so the lengths given are PE, 654.5 feet (waterline) and 697.5 feet (overall).

Dimensions according to Breyer's "Marine Arsenal Band 22 - Die Schweren Kreuzer Der Seydlitz-Klasse"

LOA with straight bow 207,70m CWL 199,50
LOA with atlantic bow 212,50m CWL 199,50

Breyer states Gröner and Koop & Schmolke as a source.

The above mentioned dimensions are identical to Prinz Eugen, which kind of makes sense I guess.

Edit:

You have planned to draw Seydlitz in her incomplete status by mi-1942 ?

PS: the hull alongside seydlitz in 1942 is not a destroyer, but more likely a torpedo-boat of the 1939 class ??? (102 meters overall)

By 1942, no quadruple 20mm flakvierling expected Garlic :?

while a quad 20mm would be most likely in 1942, none can be found on the original plans.
