Seems a fair analysis of the hangar size, I agree a Merlin will probably only just squeeze in.

I don't mean this as disparagement of any internet peanut-gallery analysis (lord knows I do it as much as anyone), but the RN has been operating the Merlin for a fair number of years and I'm sure they understand the practical clearance requirements for day-to-day operations better than I do.

Honestly I'd love to pull some E-4 equivalent aside and ask him or her how much space they really think they need!

I remember my stepfather said about the aft deck of a navy ship: "you don't want it to be to big, so people can't hide in a corner and have sexy time..."

I except a service personal, want enough space for his workbench on wheels... around the helicopter

It's the same for most jobs those actually doing them aren't consulted when their working enviroment is designed. But on the rare occasions it does happen they usually come up with a much better plan.

yes will be interesting to see what the other 7 names are. I hope each of the home countries is represented. There is petitions for Plymouth.
But it's tricky Northern Ireland has only 5 Cities Armagh, Belfast, Lisburn, Newry and Londonderry

personally would like the rules bent a bit and HMS Antrim reappear its a town and a county

Derry is well out for obvious reasons, though I wonder will they go for a NI name at all?

it will likely be

Glasgow
Belfast
Coventry
London
Manchester
Cardiff
Sheffield

and when the Type 31 is inevitably axed in two years time and about 2 billion in wasted taxpayer funds in favour of 3-4 more GP T26s

Newcastle
Birmingham
Southampton

Would that be an issue with the current Belfast?
