Greetings one and all,

Several months ago the good Emperor Andreas (aka Mathew Jones) sent me the following URL, which is well worth your time, about the complex design development for the Yamato-Class Battleships https://warshipprojects.com/2018/04/24 ... beRwLAOa4/

I found Zoltán Takác’s (as well as Alvama’s) drawings too highly stylized for my liking, so I’ve used my equally stylized superstructure instead.

So here is my take on the project. I hope you enjoy these drawings.

This is, simply put, impressive.
Fantastic job!

While this is nice and interesting work, they all look a bit unfinished to me. The shading of the hull is very stark and contrasting, while the shading on the superstructure is the bare minimum. Some stuff is not outlined in black (the crane in the top view for example) while the guns in the top view often have ugly double black lines. Details such as mooring gear, winches and anchor chains visible on the top view is not drawn on the side views in some of the drawings, and there are 'gaps' in the shading in places. The bulges, shaded as very extensive and out of the ships side, are not visible in the top views. Planking, while nice to represent, but is it actually correct in this texturelike shape, or would at least part of it follow the ships shape? The outlines of the bows and sterns also look jagged and hastily drawn. Some masts which are literally on top of funnels would likely not have been painted grey IMO. Rests of template lines are still in the images. I can keep going on, but in my opinion these nice and interesting concepts deserve better drawings then this, sorry to say.

these are some very impressive drawings, however I do agree with Ace in that they do look a little bit flat when it comes to shading, but overall a good job

Nice work on these.

Reminder to our community: not everyone draws in the exact same shading style or desires the same level of uniform detail across the drawing.

The colour of the port holes/windows are not consistant.

Nice to see this stuff in SB regardless.

This is an impressive project.
Drawings of never-were's can often appear quite sparse, that is their nature without adding too many artistic interpretations of clutter etc.
I can see where Ace is coming from in some of his criticisms, but I have no doubt a lot of effort went into these drawings too.

A couple of the image links appear to be broken too.

Nice to see that someone else took the time and effort. It took about a year for Zoli to draw and myself to research and write that article plus several revisions, so I can see that this was no 5 minute job either.

It was very well written, and the drawings were excellent!
