I suppose that in this Alternative Universe climate is also alternative?
Otherwise I wouldn't like to live there, even despite all the welfare. ;)

I have some doubts about this aircraft carrier. Probably someone more experienced should voice an opinion.
Point is, that a converted merchant with this size and displacement probably wouldn't be able to carry 26 aircraft.
For example HMS Campania had similar lenght and displacement, but was about 5m wider and carried only 18 aircraft;
HMS Activity was 4m wider and carried 10, at most 15 a/c. Japanese Kaiyo was even bigger and they could barely squeeze there 24 a/c.
Sangamon and Casablanca classes could take even more aircraft with smaller displacement, but on a bigger hull.
My guess that some 16 aircraft is more likely quantity for a MAC of this size. For a training unit I guess it's an acceptable airwing.

The climate is the same as real world except the tundra starts a bit further North than in reality. The most inhabited areas are along the Southern borders. You are right, that's why the population remains relatively small. The biggest advantage the nation has is its resources which is probably the only real reason why people (mostly Americans and a few Japanese) move there for employment. The only other benefit they have is their location, being quite isolated from any potential enemies (other than the Japanese Empire which is seen as the biggest threat).

Yeah the numbers are too high in aircraft for an operational carrier even with this being 2/3 of the number which my calculator gave me after using the Wesworld carrier formula. If she were to be used in wartime I'd expect her to carry only about 16 aircraft (removing one of the bomber wings to either dive bombers or torpedo bombers but not both at the same time as done in the training). As it is, I worked out that the hangars can only hold 16 aircraft and being the North Pacific and Bering Sea, aircraft on deck is not a smart idea for operations.

Probably one of the few real-world vessels operated by the SRN, the SRN Admiral Ushakov is the ship of the same name of the former Imperial Russian Navy.
Built by New Admiralty Shipyards, Saint Petersburg and launched on the 1st of November 1893, she was a member of a class of coastal defence ships.

Admiral Ushakov was part of the Baltic Fleet at the beginning of the Russo-Japanese war. The Ushakov was chosen to form part of Admiral Nikolai Nebogatov's "Third Pacific Squadron" which was sent out to reinforce Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky on his journey to the Far East. The ship was obsolete and was not considered suitable for a voyage to the Pacific. However the Admiralty insisted on including Ushakov and her sister ships General-Admiral Graf Apraxin and Admiral Senyavin to bolster their force. Journeying via the Suez Canal and across the Indian Ocean, they linked up with Rozhestvensky's fleet off Cam Ranh Bay in Indochina and proceeded together to the Straits of Tsushima.

At the Battle of Tsushima, on 27–28 May 1905, the Ushakov was separated from Nebogatov during the night and fought to the last. She was twice hit below the water line and once above, the blazing wreck being run aground on the evening of 28 May after attempts to scuttle the ship failed.

She remained there until the crew, who miraculously had remained with the ship, managed to extinguish the major fires and made fast temporary repairs to her hull. She was then pulled back to sea and joined by the surviving cruisers Almaz, Oleg and Zhemchug as well as the destroyers Bodry, Grosny and Bravywhere, attempted to limp to the Russian held port of Vladivostok (the cruiser Aurora of later revolutionary fame was the only vessel to actually reach Vladivostok after becoming separated during the night). Due to a combination of bad visibility and navigational error, she missed the port and instead put into the port of Anadyr. It was here that the badly burnt hulk remained until the 'liberation' of Sieran on the 17th of October 1905.

All seven badly damaged vessels were inherited by the newly formed Sieranian Republic Navy and provided the sole vessels in the fleet for many years. The Admiral Ushakov had been so badly damaged that her rebuild was never completed entirely with one of the biggest distinguishing features being the merging of her funnels into a single aft stack.
She served as the flagship of the fleet until she was replaced by new-built vessels and as of 1938 still existed as an ammunition hulk.

Yeap, certainly not a place I'd like to live.
Probably this navy will have a whole flotilla of armed icebreakers? Otherwise for much of the year the fleet would be stuck in ports.
Anyway, interesting effort. :)

Yeah, the Northern ports (including the major one at Pevek) are all ice-locked during the cooler months (which averages about 160 days of the year due to the location). The navy does have a substantial number of icebreakers of their own as well as the ability to requisition the few civilian ones when needed.

The Chukchi Class minesweepers were a series of small, wooden vessels built for the Sieranian Republic Navy between 1920 and 1931. Wood was chosen to be the construction medium to allow the vessels to be constructed by smaller shipyards in order to conserve the main shipyards for other naval tonnage as well as providing a margin of safety and protection against magnetic mines.

Many of the Chukchi Class maintained the defensive minefields around Sieran's coast as well as assisting in maintaining safe passages for merchant shipping. A few later vessels experimented with diesel propulsion but the majority of the class continued to be powered by a simple reciprocating steam engine and its single water-tube boiler.

The sole armament for the Chukchi class was a 3in Quick firing gun mounted on the foredeck. This gun was the same gun used on the Navy's submarines as well as numerous small ships. The gun itself was based on an infantry piece and had a maximum elevation of only 20 degrees, restricting it to anti-surface roles. Later refits would see a twin 20mm anti-aircraft gun mounted on the roof of the aft deckhouse and machine guns mounted above the bridge in an attempt to provide better protection.

The class was also often incorporated into the Naval Training schools and for many recruits their first taste of life aboard an operational Naval vessel was to be on a Chukchi minesweeper.

By the late 30s, problems had been discovered with incorrect treatment of timbers during construction which had led to the deterioration of hull fasteners in key structural areas, resulting in the majority of the class undergoing extensive overhauls when possible to allow them to remain in service until their replacements would be ready.

Many forget that for every capital ship, cruiser and frigate you have, you'll have almost twice as many smaller auxiliary vessels essential to operations. That and little ships are so much easier to draw and can look quite nice.
