I think the reason they got so screwed up is because I was doing these on my desktop (which runs Windows 2000 and only saves pics as bitmaps) and then transferring them to my laptop (which runs Windows 7 and saves bitmaps as pngs). Thankfully my laptop's back up and running so I'll probably avoid this problem in the future.

Happy New Year, everyone...and to start the 2012 off right, I've got a new drawing for you!

In this timeline, both Akagi and Atago are completed as CVs instead of CBs. This is Atago in 1943. Tried to upload it as a PNG, but I dunno if it took or not.

Makes my efforts look pretty sorry by comparison.

Very nice. You could overhang the flight deck at the bows a little more but its not a serious issue.

I did it just like the drawing showed. the forward flight deck is like that of Ryujo, but on a fleet carrier scale.

And we're back again, this time with another one of those cruisers I promised!

The design of the Oyodo-class was considered fine for submarine squadron flagships or as reconnaissance units, but there were some that believed the IJN could use the design as a replacement for some of the older CLs. The IJN had already begun replacing its CLs starting in 1933, starting with the Katoris:

Katori-class
Katori - commissioned 1933; replaced training cruiser Asama
Kashima - commissioned 1933; replaced training cruiser Izumo
Kashii - commissioned 1934; replaced training cruiser Iwate
Kashiwara - commissioned 1934; replaced training cruiser Yakumo

The Oyodo-class was designed as SubRon flagships, roles which the smaller follow-on Naniwa-class also assumed:
Oyodo-class
Oyodo - commissioned 1934; replaced Komahashi as SubRon flagship
Niyodo - commissioned 1934; replaced Jingei as SubRon flagship

Naniwa-class
Naniwa - commissioned 1935; replaced Chogei as SubRon flagship
Otowa - commissioned 1935; replaced Taigei as SubRon flagship; vessel was converted to CVL
Chishima - commissioned 1935; replaced Tsurugisaki as SubRon flagship; vessel was converted to CVL while under construction
Matsushima - commissioned 1936; replaced Takasaki as SubRon flagship; vessel was converted to CVL while under construction

The Agano-class and their successors were designed to replace the older CLs that were slowly becoming obsolete:
Agano-class
Agano - commissioned 1934; replaced Tenryu, which was converted to convoy escort ship
Noshiro - commissioned 1934; replaced Tatsuta, which was converted to convoy escort ship
Yahagi - commissioned 1935; replaced Kuma, which was converted to convoy escort ship
Sakawa - commissioned 1935; replaced Tama, which was converted to convoy escort ship

Improved Agano-class (Niitaka-class)
Niitaka - commissioned 1935; replaced Kitakami, which was converted to a midget submarine training ship
Tsushima - commissioned 1936; replaced Kiso, which was converted to convoy escort ship
Takachiho - commissioned 1936; replaced Oi, which was converted to a midget submarine training ship
Takasago - commissioned 1937; replaced Nagara, which was converted to convoy escort ship

Improved Oyodo-class (Kamo-class)
Kamo - commissioned 1937; replaced Natori, which was converted to AA cruiser
Kizu - commissioned 1937; replaced Kinu, which was converted to AA cruiser
Nayoro - commissioned 1938; replaced Yura, which was converted to AA cruiser
Izumi - commissioned 1938; replaced Yubari, which was converted to coast defense squadron flagship

Improved Kamo-class (Ayase-class)
Ayase - commissioned 1939; replaced Isuzu, which was converted to AA cruiser
Minase - commissioned 1939; replaced Sendai, which was converted to AA cruiser
Otonase - commissioned 1939; replaced Abukuma, which was converted to AA cruiser
Yoshino - commissioned 1940; replaced Jintsu, which was converted to AA cruiser
Saien - commissioned 1940; replaced Naka, which was converted to AA cruiser

What caliber?, the turret style suggest 6" but it looks way too small.

6.1-inchers, just like Oyodo had. This is a kitbash from WhyMe's Oyodo drawing.

Back again after a hiatus that was much longer than I'd planned. Laptop crashed, then I lost internet briefly...suffice to say, life got in the way, as it so often does.

Anyway, I thought I'd help this thread make a comeback in a GINORMOUS way. I therefore present to you the Shichido-class battleships (heck, I don't think the term 'super-battleship' fits these beauties; 'mega-battleship' is a more fitting term  ).

Enjoy, everyone!

-Matt

Shichido-class Battleships
Names: Shichido ("Seven Circuits"; contained areas such as Musashi and Shinano provinces), Hachido ("Eight Circuits"; contained areas such as Hokkaido), Edo (original name for what is now Tokyo), Yokozuna (Grand Champion of Sumo)
Length: 1,269.5 feet
Armament: 15 x 20-in. main, 12 x 6.1-in. secondary, 60 x 5-in. AA, 252 x 25.mm. AA, & 4 x 13.2-mm. AA
