well, the dark shade at the bow now looks like paint, instead of shading. I can live with the rest (being AU and all I have no objections to non-standard shading) but the bow now looks different then it actually is.

Lightened the bow shading by +20 instead of +30. It may look better now.

Hi Redhorse,

That's done the trick, I think, looks excellent!

Agreed, I like the look of her even better now (even though I like the looks of the tripod tinclads infinitely better than the New Orleans's). I love how she has clear influences from contemporary US designs while remaining uniquely yours.

I made an error on the date the P-40B entered service with the Texas Air Force. It should have been 1940, not 1939, now that I have double-checked my research.

Apologies for the discrepancy.

That happens. No worries.

Before World War II starts for Texas (we'll officially declare war on December 9th, two days after recalling Congress following the Pearl Harbor attack), this update shows the structure of the Texas Air Force at the end of 1941:

[ img ]

21 and 22 Bomber Squadrons were activated in February and August, respectively, and equipped with B-25Cs.

I'll provide an update for the Army in the next post, and then attempt to provide a monthly "newsreel" for each month of WWII for all three services - Army, Navy/Marine Corps, and Air Force.

Very interesting. What are these "AA" squadrons in fighter and bomber groups? Airfield defence AAA units?
Looking forward to see the "newsreels"!
