I'm sure that there would of been some sort of secondary power source or at least you could say that people were sceptical of 100% nuclear propulsion at the time or similar?

...and if my memory doesn't fail me, the Kirovs' auxiliary propulsion system was steam turbines;not gas turbines...

Kirov: 2 PWR and 2 oil-fired boilers - 2 turbines and 2 shafts - 108800 HP.

Boilers use to superheat steam boosting normal speed on steam from the nuclear reactors by some 50%

Very nice Alex. One thing is, why not change positions of the after radar with the small AA gun above it. The radar will have better view, and longer range, while the gun will not suffer that much.
