I think thats a picture of the AEW variant of the Avenger though i could be wrong
i agree with Erik that it isn't ideal but its the best solution in my opinion before Gannet AEW and the Tracker

That most definitely isn't a Skyraider.

Errr... damnit. Pasted the wrong URL.

The cutaway is a Skyraider, though, as is this.

Aye, this is a rare AD-3W/4W ( 4W version not that rare ) of Skyrider.

Yes, indeed - The AEW.1 Skyraider's radar where later transfered to the Gannets and Schackeltons som in performance they where similar.

And the next question - could a Skyraider be effectivly transfered into an ASW aircraft like the Gannet or Alizé?

weren't these skyraiders operating in pairs, with one radar and one destroyer? at least the dutch avengers were..... and IIRC they used about the same radar. the gannet (and I think alize to) carried both the radar and the weapons.... as works best

Although the AD-3W had some ability to spot submarines, there was thought given to development of a specialized "hunter-killer" Skyraider team for the antisubmarine warfare (ASW) role. To this end, two AD-3W AEW machines were modified to a "hunter" configuration designated the "AD-3E", and two AD-3N night attack machines were modified to a "killer" configuration designated the "AD-3S". Sources are very unclear as to the specific modifications. In any case, the scheme didn't go into operation; the Navy had moved on to the notion of using a single aircraft to perform both the "hunter" and the "killer" missions. Interest remained in developing a Skyraider variant that could perform the dual mission.
I'd say it's entirely feasible they could be converted to perform the mission but how suited to it they'd be is another matter entirely.
