FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF DENTON
THE EARLIEST SETTLERS
The Denton Islands were first settled by the Polynesian people, around 1200-1400 CE, who first migrated from the Cook Islands. Around 1300-1500 CE, the Māori of New Zealand settled Denton alongside the Cook Island Māori.

THE BEGINNINGS
-In 1712, a Salidan explorer by the name of John H. Denton explored the the islands. Upon reaching what is now St. Catherine, he ran aground, and his ship's foremast had snapped. After spending several weeks fixing the mast, Denton is preparing to leave as a feud breaks out between his crew and the Maori. Denton was among 4 of the crew members killed, and the rest of his crew sailed home.
-In 1734 and 1736, Captain Eirnin Hughes, landed on the islands and claimed them for Salide. He also mapped the islands and named them after John H. Denton.
-In 1748, the first Salidan colonial settlers arrive on the Eastern island and create the town of Elizabethtown (where Bristol is today). Later settlers come in 1751, 1756, and 1763 and create the towns Lock Haven, St. Catherine and Casla. Unfortuantely, not a whole lot of interest is given to the colonies so only a small number of colonists settle the islands, opting for the Eastern Island as their main island.

REVOLUTION
-In 1857, the settlers of Denton fight the Salidans for independence. After the fall of much of Salide's colonial Empire, Salide exerts tighter control on Denton. The Dentonites were soon overwhelemed by the increasing regulations imposed by the Salidan government, further straining relations. Soon, the Dentonite's felt that they were mistreated and revolted. There were several pivotal battles that determined the course of the war, ultimately won by Denton, thanks to help from the Denton Maori. The Dentonites and Maori were able to defeat the Salidans and the Denonites officially declared their independence on 14 December 1858.

A NEW REPUBLIC
-In 1859, the first constitution was drafted and a new government established, formally as the Federal Republic of Denton.
-In 1861, the Denton government offered land grants to anyone who would settle the country. German, Irish, French, Polish and immigrants from other European countries took up the offer, settling mainly on the sparsely populated Western Island, with Germans forming the cities of Komorn, Saalfeld, Crassna (later Fort Crassna) and Saarbrucken, the Poles creating the cities of Piaski, and Susz, and the Irish creating the towns of Carrick and Castlebar. Surprisingly a large number of British came to settle as opposed to 70 years before, and formed the towns of Concord, Port Douglas, Port Sterling, Ellesmere, and Halesmere.
-In 1876, G. H. Douglas II discovered the Douglas Iron Ore Deposit near Pareau. After attracting the interest of several investors, a narrow gauge railway is built from the deposit to Port Lyons. Three years later in 1879, F. Hofmann and J.H Maxim discover a large Zinc-Lead-Copper (and later Silver) deposit east of Raleigh. Another narrow gauge railway is built from Maxim to Saarbrucken, and later Maraetai.
-In 1884, the railway had expanded to connect Fort Crassna, Fort Albany, and Komorn Piaski and was rapidly expanding to other cities and towns. The discovery of the DIO Deposit and the Maxim ZLC(S) Deposit transforms the nation by introducing a nation wide rail network to efficiently transport the large amount of raw goods to the Big 4 (Innsbruck, Susz, Zlin, Komorn Piaski) and is the leading factor in the first transformation of Denton into an integrated industrialized nation.
-ca. 1880s, After the impressive victory of the Prussian military in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71) and the rather humiliating performance of the French, Denton felt disillusioned by the French model and instead decided to turn to Germany for aid, eventually contracting a military training mission to re-organize and update Denton's military forces. This decision was greatly helped by the large number of German immigrants in the country.
-In 1895, the first all steel ship to be built in Denton is launched, ushering a new era of shipbuilding for the nation.
-In 1908, I. S. Eiffel builds and flies the first powered airplane in Susz.
-In 1910, Denton's second constitution was written up, and was basically an extension of the original constitution first drafted in 1856. This included the abolishment of the land grant, as the country had grown to nearly 17 million people, and the addition of immigration laws, created to keep the islands from overpopulating too quickly. Also, Slavery was abolished with the new draft of the constitution (although every state had abolished it by 1869).
-In 1912, the first assembly plant for mass production of cars and trucks is built in Lock Haven, spreading the influence of commercial and personal motor vehicles. The railway system also undergoes a major change, removing the 3'6" narrow gauge and replacing it with 4'9" gauge.


A WORLD AT WAR!!
-In 1914, the Great War starts. Denton keeps it's hands clean but in 1915 the passenger liner 'The Concordian' is sunk by a German U-Boat, under the suspicion of carrying war materiel to Great Britain. 'The Concordian' was sunk off the coast of France, 120 miles west of Brest, while en route to London, with 219 of the 825 onboard perishing. The attack on 'The Concordian' outraged the Denton public because the ship was not carrying materiel of any kind. After review, Denton formally declared war against the Central Powers on 14 February 1915. Throughout the course of the war, Denton sends nearly 600,000 troops and volunteers to Europe and Africa. Of those, 170,000 soldiers were wounded and another 50,000 were killed.
-In 1919, the Great War ends with the Treaty of Versailles, of which Denton was a signatory. The soldiers are brought home and the Roaring 20s begins.


THE GOLDEN AGE
-In the 1920s, Denton is faced with large scale urbanization and the shift from a mainly agrarian society, to an industrial economic base. Doing so, this drastically increased the way of life in Denton and turned it into a sizable exporter of goods.


-In 1929, the Stock market crashed and sends the US into the Great Depression. The effects of the Great Depression did not reach Denton until early 1931, as the demands for Dentonite exports withered and prices of domestic goods increased considerably. Although not horribly affected, unemployment hit 11% in 1932, the highest it had been in the history of the islands.
-By 1934, with the government having implemented numerous work programs to help increase the wage of workers, prices of domestic goods started to lower and the economy gradually got traction and picked back up, although it would still be in a slump for 6 more years until Denton's entrance into WWII.


A WORLD AT WAR... AGAIN.
-In 1939, World War II starts with Germany's invasion of Poland. Denton remains neutral, although is called upon by the French for assistance. Knowing that war could be a real possibility in the near future, Denton rapidly builds it's forces up. With a final plea from the French, Denton sends it's first detachment of troops, the Denton Expeditionary Force to the Belgian border, alongside the British Expeditionary Force, under the command of Gen. Billotte. As the Germans attacked through Belgium and Luxembourg, the DEF was pushed back to the Atlantic and subsequently evacuated with the BEF to Britain.

With the Germans signing an Armistice with France and taking the north and west regions of France, there was not much opportunity for retaliation. Denton, however is fully immersed in the war and supports the British as well, participating in the African campaign, in the Mediterranean, and the bombing campaign over Germany.


-In 1948, with the Soviets blockading Berlin and the US, Britain and France planning an airlift, Denton sends 3 C-307s to West Germany to support the Berlin Airlift.


THE GREAT RECESSION OF 1953

-In 1946, fresh out of WWII, the booming Dentonite economy makes the shift from wartime production. In the few years that followed, there was a slight recession due to the massive reduction in output and restructuring of the manufacturing sector. After a few years, in 1949, the economy is stable and booming.
-In 1953, due to numerous factors, like reduced taxation, removal of tariffs, and lax enforcement of corporate laws, the economy hits a large recession, resulting in massive bouts of unemployment, with levels as high as 19% in some areas. By 1956, the low point is reached, with national unemployment at an all time high of 12%. In 1957, after extensive restructuring of the government, along with legislation that would prevent anything of the sort from happening in the future, the economy was on the fast track to recovery.
-In 1956, without Federal Pollution Control, Komorn Piaski, Innsbruck, Susz, and Lock Haven become so heavily polluted that it produced smog so thick that the visibility was less than a 1/2 mile in some areas. With the health of the people in jeopardy, the Government steps in with an emergency protocol requiring all industry to shut down and clean up within 3 months of enactment or they would be shut down for good. This period of time, known as the 'Quiet Spring' saw many industries taken offline by the anti-pollution emergency protocol, thus worsening the Recession. Although it would take almost 20 years for the smog to clear up, the conditions improved drastically and within 8 months of the enactment of APEP56 most industries that had been shut down met the minimum criteria set in place and were put back on line, although heavily watched by the Fed.
-In 1962, the economy is stable once again.


A COLD, COLD WAR


-In 1991, with the dissolution of the Soviet union and the end of the Cold War, Denton moves to end conscription and reduce its military size.
-By 1995, the Denton Armed Forces is established as a professional military, and new equipment is obtained to modernize the Cold War era vehicles.

First President:
Henry James Thomas
HJ Thomas served for 17 years as the president, serving 4 5 year terms, until his death. The term limit at the time was 3 terms, however, because he was appointed as the first president at the end of the revolution, it was not regarded as an actual term. He was one of the most popular presidents Denton has seen and one of the most influential.
He died in 1876, halfway through his 4th term. His vice president took office after he died, and several months later an election was held. His VP was elected into office for a single 5 year term.

All vehicles are speed limited, depending on class of vehicle, and the limiters can be removed (because a select few of highways have no speed limit). However, your vehicle must be registered as such and you must have paperwork from the shop that did the modification. If you are going over the max limited speed and are pulled over and you do not have the proper paper work, you can and will be slapped with a huge fine (along side a ticket if you do receive one).

Debt Collection - The debt collection agencies in Denton are run by the govt, so they do have complete legal authority. However, there is entitlement which is similar to bankruptcy. This is like 100,000 worth of possesions, a house, a car and at least 100 acres of land if applicable.

The collection agency will work with the person in debt and arrange financing, interest based on income earnings and living situation.

One of the key standards that is always upheld by the Dentonite society and government is the right to 'Life, Liberty, Security", as well as the right to 'property and the pursuit of happiness'

Sales tax is a flat rate of 10% in Denton, for the Federal. Some states tack on an extra 2-5% to that, and sometimes to certain products (like an excise tax on gasoline or cigarettes)(And this is just everyday stuff)

Tariffs are in place for imports and start at 25% although most are above 30%. For the HLK, and any other countries entered into a trade agreement, the Tariffs come down to 15%.

Denton has a very large industry base and so the taxes for imports are high to protect Denton's domestic interests. There are also some import quotas in place, so some items imported to Denton may not be very numerous.

Concord Class Dreadnought, 1907

A brief history: After receipt of the Saarbrucken and Innsbruck pre-dreadnoughts in 1898, the DN finally had a capable ocean-going battleship. However, their service life was quite short, as they were soon made obsolete by the rapid advances in naval technology at the time. They were quickly out armored, out paced, and, by sheer number, outgunned. After the appearance of HMS Dreadnought, which set the standard for later ships, the DN knew it would not be able to keep up with these fast, heavily armed ships, and decide to take action. With approval to dip into the emergency fund, the DN created basic requirements for the design of their new 'dreadnought' and contracted the design and building work to the rapidly growing East Haven Federal Shipyard. The EHFS was the primary builder for most of the DN's ships, from the torpedo boats, all the way up to one of the larger Armored cruisers. EHFS therefore had the capability to build such a large and revolutionary ship. After design work was done, however, it was found the EHFS could theoretically build the dreadnought, but it would take more than 5 years to build and commission it with it's limited facilities, so it was instead contracted to Newport News Shipbuilding (which built all of Denton's battleships. All of them). The keel was laid down in early 1906 and the hull was launched in 1908. After being steamed to Denton for outfitting (as was standard), she was named Concord, and commissioned in 1909. This is also when the Saarbrucken and Innsbruck were sent to the reserve fleet and used for training exercises.

Dentonite Zeppelins

After WWI, Denton was lucky to secure a Zeppelin as war reparations. LZ98 (L52), a U class "Height Climber" Zeppelin, was transferred to Dentonite hands in 1920 and was redesignated ZRE-3 (experimental). It was first used as a design study, influencing two later airships, ZRA-3 and ZRA-4, built in 1922 and 1923. Later, it was used for transport missions to Denton's newly acquired Pacific Territory. ZRE-3 served for 4 years, making 41 Flights, 26 of which were to the Pacific Territory and one to Denton's Antarctic Claim. In it's service with Denton, ZRE-3 covered 173,900 nautical miles before being broken in a high wind while secured to it's Pacific mooring mast. It burned out, destroying the mast along with it and killing 2 men, one in the ship and one on the ground.

ZRA-4 Heistand

Designated as ZRA-3, Heistand was laid down in 1923 in the newly built Hangar No.1 at Neuberlin and launched in 1925. When it was built, it was the largest airship in the world by volume, at a whopping 4,340,000 cubic feet. It was considered the most luxurious airship in the world, even after the Graf Zeppelin was built. It flew, worldwide, with popular destinations being NSWE, Rio de Janiero, Lakehurst, and Freidrichshafen. It made over 590 flights and flew just over 1,400,000 miles, being the first aircraft to pass the million mile mark (narrowly beating out the Graf Zeppelin). Even after the Hindenburg accident, Zeppelins were still popular with the Dentonites and trips were fairly regular until the war started. The last flight was in 1940 and it was stored in one of Neuberlin's hangars. It was finally scrapped in 1962.

The MT-76 is a 7 ton 6x6 truck built in the 1960s by the Elrich Motor Company based in Saarbrucken. It was developed in response to Denton's need to replace it's aging fleet of post-war trucks. It was the second military truck series to incorporate the backbone and independent suspension, as revolutionized by Tatra, and the first truck to successfully deploy the TMEB (Truck Mounted Earth-moving Blade). While praised by it's crews for it's ruggedness and ability to tackle the roughest terrain with ease, it was woefully underpowered (although the engine was very reliable) and a maintenance nightmare. The backbone chassis it was built on had reliability problems that were not solved until the -13 series, the transfer case had a knack for going out at inopurtune times, and the transmission was extermely noisy and was difficult to shift. Despite all of these problems, it served as the backbone for the Denton Army until the introduction of the larger, more reliable HT-86 and HT-158 in 1988.

This vehicle was designed by Technical Solutions in South Africa (alongside the Cougar HE) and is built on a modified version of the HT-86 truck chassis and utilizes an independent suspension to increase offroad mobility. It is also 6 inches wider than the Cougar HE, to widen the stance and lower the risk of it rolling over (and increasing the size of the troop compartment).

The Troop capacity on all models is 13, with 3 crew + 10 passengers.

The top MRAV has a ROWP (Remotely Operated Weapons Platform, pronounced 'Rope'), and the bottom MRAV utilizes a turret like those used on the AIT-5 and the AIFV-6, with a 30mm Autocannon and a 7.62mm coaxial. The turret also increases the survivability of the gunner in the event of a roll over.

The AIT-5 was concieved in 1991, with the abolishment of conscription and the move to a more professional army underway. Since the setup of of the previous AITs came under fire, Moffet Truck re-designed the whole vehicle, keeping the suspension and engine (although updated), but changing everything else. The AIT-5 retained the side door of the AIT-4, but it was enlarged to a more comfortable 30 inches, and the engine was moved forward behind the drivers and underneath the turret. Where the engine was before, a rear door was added and fold down seats were installed against the wall. The overall capacity was 10 troops in the compartment (12 on overload), and three crew. Like the rest of the AIT series, it was loaded with armor, offering protection from 14.5mm AP rounds all the way around (while earlier AITs only protected from 7.62 mm).

Some history -

The AIT series was first concieved by modifying surplus halftracks from WWII into 6x6 trucks. The first conversion was completed in 1947, intended to replace halftracks in Army Service. This created the AIT-1. After the intial conversion was done by the Army, the Moffet Truck Factory (MTF) was contracted to build the trucks.

The AIT-1 was produced from late 1947 to mid 1953, until the army contracted MTF to deign and build a new AIT. The total production run of the AIT-1 numbered in the area of 5000 units, excluding the converted halftracks. The trucks were initially popular with crews and soldiers, until they encountered heavy fire that penetrated the thin armor. While popular with the soldiers who used them, the engine had a tendency to break down if it was over stressed, such as in combat situations or driving in difficult terrain.

In 1958, MTF finalized the replacement for the AIT-1. The AIT-2 was a 8 wheeled, open top, amphibious APC that could carry up to 17 troops. The first version proved to be very capable, both on land and off, but many soldiers complained of the shorter sides (to make disembarking easier) exposing the top of their helmets, and later MTF came out with an updated model, eliminating the short side. The next batch was updated with a roof and 4 roof hatches, with a reduced troop capacity of 13. In the period between 1958 and 1968, a total of 4500 AIT-2s were built.

This aircraft was first flown in 1939 and was the fighter that held off the Japanese attack on Denton in early 1941. It continued service late into the war, and proved a formidable fighter after several engine problems were addressed.
By around 1944 it was rendered obsolete, but our largest aircraft manufacturing plant was destoryed in the attack (in 1941) so it was our primary fighter until late 1943 when the facilities were back up and running. After better aircraft had been produced, it was used for observation purposes and for dogfight training back at home. After the war, the aircraft was popular with private individuals who then used the aircraft for traveling or recreational purposes (like the Cavalier Mustang).

Ok, nothing on the Cruiser. I'll start small.

This is an AAW Destroyer, inspired by Eswube's Generic 1960s Destroyer.


Built: ca.1961

I am posting this to see if I am headed in the right direction with the weapons, radars, etc. Any help/input would be much appreciated. I am also not sure of what weapon to put behind the bow gun. Since I am following the setup of Eswube's Generic, it is an ASW weapon, but I am not sure what it should be.

For the time period and ASW mission, you could use the Bofors rocket launcher or the Limbo that were on a lot of European ships of the time. I think the French had their own version too, and the US had Weapon Alpha, which looked cool but was apparently not too successful in use.

@Kilomuse, I decided to go with ASROC, because apparently it was fielded in 1961, which is when this ship was built so that works out good. Thanks for your input though!

Ok, after a quick talk with Eswube, I modified the design so it did not look entirely like his Destroyer. After looking around at other ships of the time period, I found the Charles F. Adams class Destroyer and decided to follow that design a little bit (well, pretty heavily actually but that doesn't matter).

If it were me I'd either ditch or swap round that aft 5" with the launcher or if space permits lower the launcher by a deck so that the firing arcs of the 5" are uninterrupted.

Alright, here is my current WIP.

There are 2 ships in the class, BB-4 Fort Albany and BB-5 Lock Haven. I based it off of the New York class of BBs.

Of course, with the specs, I don't have them all yet.

Here are the basics:
Launched: 1913, Newport News Shipyard
Length OA: 575ft
Beam: 95ft
Draught: 27.5ft

Armament:
8 or 10 14" Guns (not sure about the number 3 turret)
20 5" guns

I'm looking for some feedback on the overall design and I'm not entirely sure how to model the casemate guns in the hull.
