Ki-11 Class Submarine:

The next submarine class built for Koko no Kaigun, after the Ki-3 units and the lone Ki-9 had reached the end of their production run, was once again an almost carbon-copy of an IJN one.
Based on the Kaidai-5 the sub shared the 8,2m beam and 4,7m drafit with the IJN counterpart, beign only 0,5m longer at 98,2m overall. It displaced 1.575T surfaced and 2.330T submerged. Test depth was 75 meters, speed 20,5knots surfaced and 8,2 submerged, with a 10.000nm endurance sirfaced (at 10knots) and 60nm submerged (at 3 knots). Complement was 62 officers and men. The sip were armed with six 533mm torpedo tubes, four at the bow and two at the stern. Unlike the IJN KD-5, which sported a 100mm deck gun, the Kokoan K-11 units were fitted with a 120mm/40 Type11 gun for commonality with the Ki-9.
Six units were planned to be built, all at Kumoi Arsenal. The first two were laid down in 1929 and 1930 then the London Naval Treaty killed the other four units. Ki-11 was launched 1931 and commissioned in 1933, Ki-12 followed in 1932 and 1934.

Production restarted in December 1933 with Ki-14 and Ki-16 beign reordered under the first Rearmament bill. Built at Kumoi they were commissioned in 1937 and 1939.
Forming Sensuitai 2 the four submarines operated jointly with Ki-9 and Ki-18 units making up Sensui sentai 3, At the start of the Pacific war all four Ki-11 units supported KnK 1st Koku Sentai attack on Midway Island. Later they were deployed to target allied shipping between the Hawaii and the Fijis, Ki-14 beign the most successful ship with five merchants sunk. The four units then provided scouting and support during the Solomon and Guadalcanal campaign, ofted doing suply and trasport runs. Ki-12, 14 and 16 were all sunk by US Destroyer during the course of 1944, with Ki-11 barely survived a depth charge attack herself. In mid 1945 Ki-11 was docked at Kumoi arsenal and converted into a Kaiten Carrier, one of only three Koko no Kaigun submarines to be modified that way.

In November 1945, as soon as the Koko uprising started, Ki-11 crew choose to join the rebels and attempted to leave Kumoi and reach Toumachi Bay. IJA soldiers tried to sieze the ship and a small fight ensued. Ultimately Ki-11 crewmembers were able to scuttle the submarine. K-11 wreck was alter raised and scrappedafter the end of the war.

Ships in class: (laid down-launched-commissioned - fate)

Ki-11 1929-1931-1933 - Scuttled 1945
Ki-12 1930-1932-1934 - Sunk 1944
Ki-14 1933-1935-1937 - Sunk 1944
Ki-16 1934-1936-1939 - Sunk 1944
