Looks good but I'd check the layers, in multiple spots I see equipment overlapping (like masts and gun tubs forward and aft)

Great drawings, would love to see a modernized version of this class, like they did with the Iowa class.

(AU) United States, Montana-Class (40's)

[ img ]

The US Navy's Montana-class battleships were planned as successors to the Iowa class, being slower but larger, better protected, and with superior firepower than the Iowa class. Five units were approved for construction. during World War II, but changes in the theater of war shifted construction priorities resulting in their cancellation in favor of the Essex-class carriers before any of these superdreadnoughts' keels were laid down.

With a planned armament of 12 16-inch (406 mm) guns and with greater anti-aircraft capability than the preceding Iowa class as well as a thicker armored belt, the Montanas would have been the largest, best protected and most heavily armed battleships in the world. that the United States had put into the sea. They would have been the only battleships in the United States Navy that could have rivaled the Yamato-class battleships of the Empire of Japan in terms of armor, armament, broadside weight, and displacement.

Preliminary design work for the Montana began before the United States' entry into World War II. The first two ships were approved by Congress in 1939 after passing the Second Vinson Act. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor delayed construction of the Montana class. The combat success of the carriers at the Battle of the Coral Sea and, to a greater extent, the Battle of Midway, diminished the value of the battleship. Consequently, the US Navy chose to cancel the Montana class in favor of the most urgently needed aircraft carriers, amphibious ships, and antisubmarine ships; although orders for the Iowas were withheld as these were fast enough to escort the newer Essex-class carriers. The Montana class was the last battleship to be designed by the US Navy but her keels were never laid down; the four completed Iowa-class battleships were the last to be commissioned.
