I'm not sure how operationally suitable such a conversion would be, but it would certainly be a cheap and cheerful short-term platform for training and doctrine development while a larger, more expensive conversion or new-build was at the docks.

And as someone whose megalomania prevents me from executing them, I always endorse small, cheap, limited personal designs!

At risk of going off-topic, the US Navy even had two paddle-wheeled (!!!!) aircraft carriers in WW2. It steamed about Lake Michigan for pilot training.

A never were take on a conversion of an Iowa class BB to a CVB that could operate Jump jets and helicopters.

Edit:
I have updated the drawing, hopefully addressing most of Aces comments, but I am still unsure of a lot of which systems work with which. I used the "USA-DDG-97-Halsey" drawing to update the bits.

a few comments on this latest entry.
- check parts. We have much better looking US navy boats, there should be better looking harriers, I think you have 2 different drawings of the SPS-10....
- The big search radar looks old for the 1980's, let alone 1991.
- The VLS bay looks huge, and interferes a lot with your hangar (to the point that it should be visible trough the elevator opening. )
- The harpoon launchers look extremely cramped between the funnel and the ramp.
- You have 4 directors for 4 5in turrets, one of which (the aft one) does not even share the same arcs as those guns. Is that likely to work?
- the big search radar aft is directly in the smoke of the aft funnel
- the satcom is blocked by the same search radar.
- the line of fire of your aftmost phalanxes is probably not that good, the coverage aft is blocked by parked aircraft for example.
- there is a mismatch of the shading between the aft hangar and the hull
- You have 2 types of liferafts on board, seems unlikely to have different ones on the aft of the ship as midships.
- Your decoy launchers all fire forwards.
- Are you sure this ship would fire the standard missile 3, standard missile ERAM and ASROC without any guidance systems affiliated with those missiles? Hell, you haven't even got the guidance systems to fire ESSM or SM-2MR, I would expect the VLS of this ship to have been filled with all Tomahawk.

So yeah..... it deserves a bit more work to make it work in my opinion. This is an interesting concept always that deserves the effort ;)

Macha-class Aviation Support Ship
Specifications for Muireann through Murchadh, as-retired 2017-18.

After a reappraisal of commitments and general requirements I decided it was time for a change, time to invest in something smaller and non-nuclear than the just going with the big Clíodhna-style vessels. As such a take on the Vertical Support Ship (VSS) concept with cues from Chakri Naruebet.

In wartime the Macha-class is tasked primarily as an anti-submarine and anti-surface convoy escort as well as being able to provide flagship functionality for task forces. Other functions capable of being undertaken outside of the core roles are those of air-assault and area air defence. In peacetime the Macha-class undertake humanitarian functions such as disaster relief and medical evacuation duties as well as counter-narcotics and fisheries protection.

The Macha-class is the culmination of several preliminary designs for air-capable ships smaller than the large and expensive fleet carrier, able to be fielded in relatively large numbers (when compared with the fleet carrier) to escort widely separated convoys in a time of war. Of the designs proposed the Macha-class was the most costly but also most capable, built to warship rather than commercial standards and outfitted with defensive and offensives systems similar to those that would be found on a frigate or destroyer.
As-built the Macha-class differs from the initial concept in that it moved to a twin-shaft arrangement with power being provided by two gas turbines and four diesel generators in a CODLAG arrangement, allowing for a sustained sea speed of 28 knots.
Internally the Macha-class is divided into three totally separate damage control zones with auxiliary diesel generators outside of the main machine spaces capable of powering hotel load and the ship’s auxiliary / emergency propulsors. To improve fuel economy and lessen resistance at speed a stern wedge was incorporated into the final design.
