This wikipedia article is a list of every rotorcraft used in world war 2.
There's an entry which attracts my attention: the Kellet Cobra XX-9 which claims to be an attack helicopter. If that's true it would've been the very first attack helicopter in the world but, however i couldn't find a single photo of this helicopter.

Anybody have a photo ,a blueprint or a drawing of it?

The only mentions I could find for it were people referencing the wikipedia article and asking what it was!

Wikipedia. 'nuff said.

Well, I guess step one would be finding out if "Kellet" ever existed, given the usual sourcing issues with wiki...

The company in question must be Kellett Autogiro/Aviation Corporation. They seem to have built some autogyros and experimental helicopters during the 1930s and early 1940s.
One of its autogyros is part of the Smithonian air and space museum. ... 9600292000

But nothing about this mysterious attack helicopter.
It is only mentioned once again on this page ... gyros.html

Might be the source for the wiki-data.

I'm starting to think that this helicopter never existed and everything was a hoax...

Or.. after a second thought, and considering that in WW2, in the Normandy campaign some L-4 Grasshoppers were fitted with bazookas on their wings... maybe it wouldn't be very absurd to think that the XX-9 was a project or prototype of a XR-8 fitted with rocket launchers to the sides of those landing gears...
