No idea if this link has been posted before, but the San Fransisco Maritime National Park Association has a page filled with PDF scans of Booklets Of General Plans for ships.

There's a veritable treasure trove of information in there.

One of the best references available online - I've spent many hours reviewing the PDFs from that site. I'd recommend this to new artists especially - these plans often note the location/purpose of the various pieces of small equipment placed throughout the ship. If you are one of the "greebles and nurnies" crowd look no further.
