This is a model of a concept I've been working on for a next generation fast attack submarine. It uses a distributed propulsion system of 4 smaller pumpjets vice 1 or 2 main turbines and reduction gears. I wanted to add this to the SSN challenge but I'm not good at SB style. I'll add another post with the dimensions and equipment/capabilities etc.

where are the water intakes for the pumpjets?

I haven't modeled them yet.

I don't think that flat bit between the pump jets will be good for stealth.

Also I can't really tell from the angles displayed but it appears the vertical tail fin increases the navigation draft. You might want to reverse the triple tail arrangement so the vertical on is on top.

That's interesting. Why do you think the flat section would be bad for stealth?

The rudder is level with the keel, even though it looks longer from that perspective.

stealth under water is about: noise, movement, surface.

noise: the water that is moving over the hull, when the submarine is moving. would crash on that flat area and brake of in any direction. it would not make so much nose (or we can say vibration), but it is still enough sound for those sonars that are listing.

then you have that flat area: an sonar work similar to an radar, it send out an signal and what is reflecting back is something. just like an surface ship with it's radar. except an ship is getting seen from the side, an submarine is being seen from above, and from an angle.

simpler than this example, can't I find:

That's very interesting stuff. I guess I need to brush up on my ASW and SONAR principles.

when you look down in water to try to see something, sonar do the same but with a lot of electronics that create an picture on an screen. and a flat surface toward the sonar is more likely to be detected than by an angled surface.

That's interesting. You think angle of incidence is the main factor in active SONAR? Many modern submarines have large flat sections. If you look at the top of Souryu or SMX-23 the top is very flat. Im failry confident that the active return is influenced more by the fact that the submarine is filled with air. The aft portion of my sub design is flooded for that reason. The pumpjets are outside the pressure hull.

Also I dont think that water would have a tendency to slosh around at depth because it is under pressure. And It wouldn't cause cavitation because the surface area is too large and water would not flow over it fast enough for it to cavitate.
