The design of aircraft carriers has never been my forte but I like the drawing of that RN "never was' by Portsmouth Bill and Bombhead. Among other things I've lengthened the ship by just over 60 feet, deleted the ski-jump and added catapults and an angled deck - sort of a more modern version of HMS Hermes, if you will. The drawing also borrows from Bombhead's HMS Centaur for dimensions purposes and a few other things. I have no idea if a Hermes sized carrier can operate A 18 Hornets, how long the catapults should be. She's probably loaded with design discrepencies, but a couple of swigs of Captain Morgan and her she goes, complete with 40mm anti-sampan guns:

Edited to repair discrepencies between the side and top views of the island and to correct the linear bar.

Fantastic! I have no idea about the Hornet feasibility either but the drawing and concept are great :D I wonder though why you've gone for an older radar setup for a 1980's carrier - especially one with Sea Wolf and Goalkeeper?
(Also I just noticed the scale bar is 10m too short between 100m and 150m)
Those minor queries aside, it definitely would be nice to see Canada get back into the carrier game with one of these :)

A very interesting design and a very handsome carrier that mixes that big carrier feel with a chunky island and an economical hull. I don't know if Hornets could use that deck, but I agree it certainly looks good!

Nice one Monty I like it. The carrier design looks definately feasable, not sure about the Hornet though, maybe a navalised Hawk 200 would fit better and give a larger airwing :idea: Do the port side too. ;)

A very nice design (wouldn't mind seeing her with a complete hull), but either drop the Goalkeepers and put Seawolf in their place, or remove the Seawolf guidance radars :D

But do not put Seawolf on the deck. You have a seriously compromised field of fire...

an option might be to have only one catapult on the bow and one on the landing deck. that way you can fit longer catapults on an smaller ship, at the cost of the continues operation speed.

Guys, thank you so much for your kind remarks.

If you think I've created a nice looking ship, then I've achieved my main objective. :)

After discovering, via 'shippy2013', that Hornets require a 75 meter catapult I decided to change the airgroup. Such a cat could only fit in the waist of the ship and that would certainly impede deck ops. The new group will consist of Hawk 200s as suggested by Bombhead and Seasprite helos and, the carrier keeps her 55 meter cats.

Rowdy, I had assumed the radar fit was up to snuff. Modern ships are not my strong suit by any means. :oops: :(

MihoshiK, unless Sea Wolf requires a line-of-sight-to-target I think their positions ought to be okay. But, you do get the full hull version as requested. ;)

Odysseus, the flight measures 737 feet (224.7m) long by 137 feet (40.85m) wide.
