2 CRUISERS

1. Fylgia-class armored cruisers
HKMS Fylgia (KR1) - Eriksberg Mekaniska Verkstad (EMV), 1899/1901/1903. In reserve since 1944. Scrapped 1951.
HKMS Valkyria (KR2) - Finnbroda-Bergsund Stockholm (FBS), 1901/03/05. In reserve since 1944. Sunk as target ship 1953.
Built on the Norway financing. The project has some differents from the real.

-In 1916 casemate guns are removed, 6x1 57mm guns are converted to AA
-In 1932 added 3x2 25mm/65 Bofors m.28/32 and 4x1 20mm/70 Oerlikon-Bofors m.29 autocannons.

-Armoured deck -35mm (bevels 50 mm, ends 25 mm)

2. Gotland-class light cruisers
HKMS Gotland (KR3) - EMV, 1911/13/15. Sunk in 1940.
HKMS Smaland (KR4) - FBS, 1912/14/16. Sunk in 1943.

Evolution of the Fylgia project. Classified in Sweden as armored cruiser (pansarkryssaren), although was a light cruiser with non-classical configuration. In addition to the cruiser tasks, performed functions of a high-speed minelayer, had an armoured minedeck.


Displacement: 5800/7200 t
Dimensions: 143/144,6 x 15 x 5,25/5,6 m
Machinery: 12 Babcock&Wilcox boilers (4 coal, 8 oil-fired), 4 Curtiss direct turbines (Gotland) /De Laval geared units (other), 48400 hp.
After reconstruction - 6 Motala boilers, 4 De Laval geared units, 69500 hp
Maximum speed: 29 kts, after reconstruction - 31,8 kts
Range: 3000 nm at 12 kts, after reconstruction - 4300 nm at 14 kts.
Bunker: 850 tons (40% coal)

SFFS KR9 Enhet (Unity) - EMV, 1923/25/27. Experimental guided missile cruiser since 1957. Scraped 1974.
SFFS KR10 Samväldet (Commonwealth) - EMV, 1924/26/28. Sunk as target ship 1960.

Modified Gotland-class cruisers, built for ocean operations. First ships, laid for the Federal Navy, and first Scandinavian ships with catapults. Designed as prototypes of heavy cruisers with 6x210-mm guns (not built). Like the Gotland-class, could be used as high-speed minelayers.

Machinery: 8 Motala boilers, 4 De Laval turbine units, 78000 hp

SFFS KR11 Hugin - GV, 1924/27/29. Museum ship since 1996.
SFFS KR12 Munin - LH, 1927/29/31. Sunk in Skagerrak battle in 1940.
CA-3 La Argentina (SFFS Garm) -GV, 1927/30/33. Construction stopped in 1929 due to financial problems. Sold and completed for Argentina. Scrapped 1970.
SFFS Fenrisulven - LH, 1929/33/35. Construction stopped in 1929 due to financial problems. Resuming was impossible after the London threat. Completed as first Scandinavian carrier.

"Wolves of the Atlantic" were designed as the killers of English heavy cruisers. Their construction was the general reason to invite Scandinavia to the London Threaty.
Under the terms of the treaty were counted as battlecruisers. But their cost turned out very expensive for Scandinavia, and already in 1929 the third cruiser was sold to Argentina. Were equipped with a big hangar for seaplanes. The design of supercruisers was used in developement of Tor-class battleships.

Machinery: 10 Motala boilers, 4 De Laval turbine units, 115 700 hp
Maximum speed: 31,5 kts
