Some times the challenges became to hard. This badge occur to be close to that. I don't know why the greek CoA's are so difficult to draw, though this one was obvious because there are both a person and an old greek trireme galley in it. But get the badge look right was so close to impossible, that only my stubbornness forced me to continue. I think I succeeded fairly, and I hope Odysseus will be satisfied ;)

I lolled at the galley: the design is of one of around the year 800.......XD and one with a lot of ROMAN influences in it

What a great portrait of one of the greatest Byzantine emperors (Nicephoros Phocas (963-969 AD) Though the shield seems also to show an odd mixture of an ancient Hellenistic polyrem-hull fitted with a leteen rig (which did, indeed exist during Nicephoros Phocas's reign!) (which did not exist during his era!) the artwork is simply outstanding. - Again!

That's because Greek so called "heraldry" is not based on centuries of classic European heraldic tradition. Basically, they just draw whatever they want on their "coat-of-arms" (or rather just emblems) without any rules or regulations. The same thing can be seen in the US great seals (especially those of states) and Soviet "state emblems". It's difficult to explain; you just need to be a heraldry snob to get it ;)

:D Thanks, I've suspected something like that. Nice to get it confirmed, because when you look at (most of) the greek CoA's they look relatively simple, but when you then begin drawing them you discover that many of tx CoA's for Royal Navy are much more easy to draw even if they look more complex :? So I reckon it have with the heraldic rules (or lack of this) to do 8-)
