Of course in my never-ending fascination with Luft '46 aircraft and unfeasible outlandish aircraft, I couldn't possibly leave out one of the contenders for worst VTOL aircraft designed:
In German camouflage:
In Japanese camouflage:
Probably the strangest of the German VTOL projects, the Triebflügeljäger (literally meaning thrust-wing fighter
) was powered by three ramjets on the ends of wing pylons, which would rotate around the body to provide lift similar to a helicopter. And of course, same as the Lerche there was no way for the pilot to actually see behind the aircraft when landing, which was never addressed in the design by the end of the war.
