Hello Golly

The Mirage G (at least the twin engined versions G4 and G8; I have no good sources for the single-engined Mirage G) will follow sometime in January, as soon as I have finished the french air-to-ground ordnance parts sheet. Maybe the 'Super Mirage' (a development of the 4K with conventional wings) too. The Mirage F2 has already been done, must be in the archive somewhere.

Greetings
GD

Hello again!

Another blown chance for Germany's mismanaged Aviation Industry: The EADS Mako, a Mach 1,5 advanced trainer and light fighter with the same engine as the Saab Gripen. Six Nations (Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Greece) wanted to introduce it, and it might have sold splendidly abroad, especially at a time when many inventories are badly obsolete but no one has cash for anything bigger (Belgium? Portugal? Mexico? Argentina? The whole Balkan?) - but the project is dead in favour of the less capable Macchi M-346. Which, by the way, was so far purchased by NONE of the six Air Forces that wanted to buy Mako in the first place; I can understand that in case of the Swedes, who want to sell their Gripen, and the Greeks, who are completely broke, but the others? Facepalm.

Even though it was a missed chance for EADS, fantastic drawing regardless! Will we be seeing some what if versions as well?

Great work. :)
Maybe (just a quiet suggestion) arrange them (and similar drawings in general) on the template with the one with landing gear extended at the bottom (like it was standing on the ground), above it the one with gear retracted (flying) and completely on top the plan view? (essentialy: in reverse) ;)

A great drawing of one of those projects that didn't last very long and yet was probably more badly needed that recognised at the time.

Fantastic! I've always liked the Mako and I think you've done it justice here :)

Hello again!

A few EADS Mako specimens in the liveries of potential (more or less likely) customers:

Trainers: basic variant

Finland
[ img ]

France
[ img ]

Germany
[ img ]

Greece
[ img ]

Spain
[ img ]

Sweden
[ img ]

Switzerland
[ img ]

USA (offered by Boeing for the T-X competition)
[ img ]

Trainers and light fighters: EADS planned to build a light fighter version of the Mako from the outset, the latter with an EJ-200 engine for better performance and (I suppose anyway, having no hard data to that effect) an electronics suite enabling it to launch LGB's and fire BVRAAMs. This version, with a fly-away cost of less than $ 30 Million, would be particularly interesting for small or broke (or small and broke) countries:

Belgium (with 2 each Meteor and Iris-T AAMs)
[ img ]

Bulgaria (with 4 Iris-T AAMs and 6 rather illegal russian cluster bombs)
[ img ]

Croatia (with 4 Sidewinders and 4 french 68mm Rocket pods)
[ img ]

Morocco (with 4 Sidewinders and 2 2.000lb LGBs)
[ img ]

Peru (with 2 Matra Magic AAMs, 2 russian 250kg retarded bombs and 6 russian 57mm rocket pods)
[ img ]

Portugal (with 2 Sidewinders and 2 Polyphem lightweight antiship missiles)
[ img ]

Romania (with 4 Sidewinders and 6 russian runway-buster bombs)
[ img ]

Greetings
GD

Fantastic as usually

Just one small point: The German one has its Iron Cross on the wrong Wing.
