Nice, I had never heard of the Bulgarian LPT either.
I presume its based on the MT-LB chassis that the Bulgarians licence-built?

In the late 60s USSR was in need of a new and more efficient AWACS, to replace Tu-126 Moss.
In 1972 two DRLO projects were considered : The Tupolev Tu-156 (a new design based on a lengthened Tu-154 fuselage with new wings and four D-30KP engines) and a modified Tu-154B.
The radar was the new Schmel (and it's upgraded version Schmel-M) to replace the unsuccessful Liana complex of the Tu-126.
Finally the Beriev design bureau, offered a quicker solution : A Schmel-M mounted on a slightly modified Il-76.

The Tu-154B DRLO :

PZL.37 Łoś in export service

When first flown the PZL.37 Łoś (Moose) was seen as being one of the most advanced bombers in the world, and garnered large international interest. The aircraft was to have been a great sales success for Poland.

An export variant with Gnome-Rhône 14N engines, rather than the Bristol Pegasus used for the Polish aircraft, was designed and test flown for export. In production the aircraft were to be designated PZL.37C or PZL.37D depending on which horsepower model of the Gnome-Rhône 14N engines was to be fitted. The promise of the PZL.37 was however cut short by the German invasion and no export aircraft were built.
The first customer was to have been the Spanish Republic, but their loss in the Spanish Civil War led to the loss of that contract. Some nations had already ordered and paid for their aircraft, while others were still in the negotiation phase when Germany overran Poland.

After the Tu-154B DRLO, the last AEW project before the Beriev A50 choice : The Tu-156
That aircraft was to be a Tu-114 and Tu-154 hybrid with new wings.. The engines were the D-30 in a NK-86 like nacelle.
Cockpit was a militarized Tu-154 version.
This promising aircraft should have been declined in a MPA version (called Titan-P)

The cockpit glassing and profile is the one Eswube draw for his fantastic Tu-154 family.

Titan-P will follow ...
