Ahhh...the PBY that spotted the Japanese armada, escorted by the Nachi and Haguro in the afternoon of February 27th, 1942, which precipitated the disastrous battle of the Java Sea, where Schout bij Nacht Karel Doorman vigorously but fruitlessly attempted to halt the invasion of Java... Hr.Ms De Ruyter was one of the involved ABDA Vloot units...
Perhaps more proper to the flagship ;)

Consolidated PBY-6A Catalina: taller vertical tail, increased wing strength, new electrical system, standardized "eyeball" turret, and a radome over cockpit for radar.

Ahhh...Alex, Alex! :o    What am I going to do with you! I mentioned the USS Houston, since I only recently had her posted on the Real Design thread! That's why it was such a nice coincidence that you draw that PBY! Of course I know that the CL de Ruyter participated, together with HMAS Perth, Hr.Ms Java and HMS Exeter, besides the USS Houston and a number of destroyers from the various nations!

Besides that, in a few weeks time it's the 70th Anniversary of that tragic battle...
