Currently generating fierce arguments on the interwebs. Ex-GWR 2-8-0 No.2861 ceased to exist in any tangible form today.
Those of the railway fraternity who continue to wear rose tinted spectacles seem to think that the hulk you see in the picture could feasibly be returned to steam. What do people see that is recognisable as a locomotive here?

(I understand fabricating parts for the Duke of Gloucester was enough trouble and that was with most of the locomitive left - although some of it didn't match the builders plans, but that's a separate argument - that's pretty much "building a new loco and using two old axles from over there somewhere")
