Actually, the US Avenger-class MCMs, built in the late '80s and early '90s and still in service, have wooden hulls with a fiber-glass outer coating, so wood is still considered the best material for mine-warfare vessels. Not only does it give them a very small magnetic signature, but the wood/fiber-glass combo gives them an amazing amount of shock protection from nearby explosions.
