Btw. I think it would be good to finally expand descriptions for post-war destroyers and for frigates.

(some post-war merchants would be great too, btw. - generally: common commercial vessels could be certainly useful, if there would be volunteers to participate)

novice, that sounds awesome. PM them to me when finished and I will make sure they end up in the first post, or at least on the first page, where they belong.
if nobody volunteers for modern commercial vessels, I might try those myself, I mean my study mentions them a lot more then naval ships :P

Hi inspired by this guide I thought I would do some battleships.

I thought that using a series of 'typical' real ships might show the general trends in battleship development.

Thinking that they would run along side maybe a few battlecruisers,

- pre Dreadnought's (Devastation/Royal Sovereigns/?)
- semi Dreadnought's (Satsuma/?)
- Dreadnought's(er dreadnught !/Invincibles/Helgoland-class)
- super Dreadnought's (Orion/Nevada class/Hood)
- WNT (Nelson/Dunkerque/North Carolina )
- post treaty ( Bismarck/Iowa/Yamato).

Yes this is RN biased if you can suggest other that are important milestones I(or we) can add them ?.

Does this work (or should I draw a totally generic ship ? ) and how much detail should I put on ?

Any comments/corrections will be welcome, I'm sure many of you know more about battleships than I do.
(I hope eswube you don't mind me copying your style and Jabba your ship).

Minor point, but Iowa wasn't Post-Treaty. She was designed after both the caliber & displacement escalator clauses had been invoked, but prior to the treaty being abrogated.

Nice work but based on the work I did with destroyers and frigates I'd like to suggest:
a) to make totally generic ship, only inspired by most representative examples of the era,
b) use minimum of details - no propellers, no searchlights, no ladder steps on masts, no actual guns, just locations for them, minimum details on conning tower; and since they are generic, no exact calibres etc. (no "13.5 inch" - just the bracket "from-to" - oh, and 95% of the World's population use metric system ;) ).

On a note, I think it wouldn't be bad if such battleship preview started with the mid-19th century ironclads. ;)

P.S. And I believe that when showing the usage of hull interior You should leave some space for keel. ;)
P.P.S. Also I'd like to suggest using just one font for descriptions.
