Sonar scan confirming IJN VADM Nishimura Shoji's flagship at the Battle of Surigao Strait, BB Yamashiro has at long last been confirmed found. Sadly, she is upside down, with the tip of the bow twisted back over the rest of the wreck (in red).

Might sound a bit like bad humor, but I'm not surprised that she is upside down given the (in)famous size of her superstructure.

Agreed. That leaves only three left now...Kongo (which, given she had a magazine explode before sinking, probably is in similar condition to HMS Hood), Hiei (off Guadalcanal), and Fuso (and there are rumors she's been located as well).

I do not find Yamashiro superstructure that big, it look big, but it consist most of three large pillars for her mast with a surrounding terrace-deck with some wind/weather protection, some open, some closed. if we look at other battleships, like those Frenche and the British Lion- class or KGV, there superstructure was more an massive superstructure, just not that tall.

But those Japanese cruisers....

Yes. Yamashiro continued on while Fuso was knocked out by torpedoes.

Looks like the stern has either collapsed or partially detached/completly detached
