Good morning, guys! Happy new year!
I Have some doubts: Are our drawings in SB (either scale) considered "pixel art" ? , Which is the difference between our drawings and "vector drawings"? And finally, more or less, our commonlly used scales (SB and FD) at what model scale (I mean something like 1/72 or 1/48) corresponds? Thanks and cheers.

  1. Yes. Drawings here are pixel art.
  2. 'Vector' images are defined by a series of equations that define the colors and sizes of lines and areas. Basically giant text files that get red by the computer to generate an image. Standard vector formats are SVG, AI, & EPS. This is opposed to 'raster' images that define the pixels that show up on the screen on a more-or-less individual basis. Standard raster formats are BMP, PNG, JPEG, GIF, ect.
  3. There is not a good one-to-one comparison, as the scale would depend on the pixel density of the screen. My 2004 laptop had a pixel density of 96 pixels per inch, which would be something on the order of 1/576 in SB scale (96 pixels is 48 feet, which is 576 pixels). My 2017 phone on the other hand has a ppi of about 400, meaning that when a shipbucket image is shown natively, the scale is something like 1/2406. FD scale numbers would be about 1/171 and 1/714.6 for those two screens respectively.

Model scale would depend on the DPI when printed... resolution on the screen is irrelevant for model scale of an SB drawing.

Getting your drawing the right size is highly critical. The rest (relating one of our pixel art images to a particular scale given a particular PPI/DPI), not so much.
