Been getting a lot of "UK Kitchen" spambots recently (no matter, they are easy to delete but still a bit of a chore), so I went ahead and revised the registration question (it's now "Who won the Battle of Midway (Axis or Allies)?", with "Allies" being the correct answer). I hope the board will forgive me for choosing an answer involving the US Navy and World War II, but I am pressed for time this morning and it was all I could think of.

The previous question ("What is the name of this website?") was clearly too easy for spambots to guess... if this one doesn't work, will be taking suggestions for a new registration question in this thread. ;)

On top of this - I am currently deleting all users who have zero posts. This turned out to be a much larger number than I originally suspected - have pruned almost 250 users, most of whom were clearly spambots with no posts.

If your account got deleted, just recreate it (and post while you're at it... nobody likes lurkers.) ;)

instead of an text, have an picture with random number and names in it. or an question. Most spam-bot can't read an picture. But I haven't actually read up on what new spam-bots are out there the last five years. but last time I checked, spam bots was clever, they could answer questions, and so on. but they had problem with pictures...

The CAPTCHA things were giving even worse results than the human verification questions unfortunately....

then there are new bots out there.

other solution is to have five different questions.

in worst case we can do it like the secret project forum have it. where an admin have ta accept the account. but that is just cruel... but if I know how you are Colo... well...

I considered that, but I don't want to have to approve accounts... it's also difficult to tell who has a real account vs. who the spammers are just by a username. ;)

We'll see how it goes over the next few days...
