Good morning.
A long living french coast defense gun: Canon 240 mm L Modele 1884. It was the main heavy artillery in the principal french fort.
[ img ]
It was also used as railway artillery in WWI, and survived as artillery in the german Atlantic Wall until the end of WWII.
Credits: Thanks to Alvama (I learn how to draw the rails from his Dora drawing) and to Darth Panda (I for the colors for the railroad gun, which was from his St. Chamond tank). And of course, to Eswube, who makes me the research of french materiel much more easy. Cheers.

Great drawings! You also hit me in a soft spot with that railway carriage.

Nice articulated bus, Judah!

Hi, this is an american mortar for coast fortifications for sounds, inlets, closed bays and other confined waters.
[ img ]
In an era when the deck armour was weak, a plungging shot was very dangerous for the attacking ship. The mortars were grouped in batteries of 4, and the concentred fire of 2 or 4 batteries, even with the primitive FCS of the late XIX century, the risk of impact for an attaking vessel was high. The recoil system was under the floor, and also the entire battery was under ground level, so it was invisible from the sea.
Cheers.

Thanks! Very instructive video! The barrel of the mortar looks very light colored for the dark gray choosed for my drawing. Do yo know the actual color of the mortar? The next (and probably last gun of the year) will be, al last!, the 100 ton armstrong's gun, which is also in one video.

It's probably just the recording. In most of the pictures I see, it's a dark gray, but in a few they are light colored. And photos from the present show them painted in black.
