Thiria class Destroyers or Aetos Class were 4 Destroyers build initialy for Argentina back on 1910-11.
Greece purchase them just before 1st Balkan war and was classified as Scouts due to that their torpedos were not deliver yet.
Named after wild animals, Aetos (Eagle), Ierax (Hawk), Leon (Lion) and Panthir (Panther) soon took the nick name "Thiria" (Wild Beasts).

here the initial drawing of the class by Garlicdesign

based on Garlicdesign initial drawing I update it to a Pre WWII modification.
The ships were received a full scale reconstruction at the end on 1920's which complete change their appearance and armament.

Leon was Sunk at Suda Bay on May of 1941 the rest of the ships flee to Alexandria and received later on at Kalkuta India a refit in order to upgrade their fighting capacity. Upgrade and camo painted version is coming soon. Any correction is more than welcome!

Very nice work. That was certainly a large reconstruction job.

On summer of 1940, all greek warships were painted with various patterns of camouflage as the inteligence infos regarding Italian movements and italian agressive actions into the Greek airspace and seas was increasing day by day. No exemption were the 4 DDs of the class.

[ img ]

After the collapse of the front and the flee of the remaining fleet to Alexandria, the 3 remaining DDs of the class received an upgrade refit at Kalcuta, India. The refit was almost the same as the rest Greek DDs such as Vas. Olga and Hydra class.
Aft 4'' gun removed and DC rags and launchers installed. Aft TTs removed and a 3'' AA gun installed. The 2 single 40mm pom pom replaced with equal single 20mm Oerlikons. A ASW detection device was installed as well. General overhaul of the engines and machineries took place too.

I have no idea as no pics are available of the ships between 1942-46, regarding the general lay out, camo and petant numbers...so the depiction is approximate. Any info for corrections are welcome!
